Udupi: District Health and Family Welfare Officer Ramachandra Bairy said here on Wednesday that one person had died of suspected leptospirosis at the Government Hospital in Karkala on October 18.

The patient belonged to Mudrady village in Karkala taluk. Dr. Bairy said that of the 45 cases of leptospirosis reported in the district thsi year, five patients had died.

?Doctors in the district have been told to test for the infection if the patient shows any signs of fever or jaundice,? Dr. Bairy said.
