Tuesday, June 23, 2009

State health officials are confirming Maryland's first death from swine flu or H1N1 virus.
All officials will say is that the victim was an elderly Baltimore metro area resident who had a serious underlying medical condition and a novel H1N1 virus infection.
They are not saying when the person died, or release any details of the patient's condition.
Deputy Secretary for Public Health Frances Phillips says it's likely this strain is in every jurisdiction and there will likely be more flu related deaths this year.
Maryland has confirmed 370 cases of H1N1.
