The small island of Saint-Barth?lemy, in the Antilles, decided Thursday April 16 to lift the ban on swimming after a month of confinement, despite the extension announced by Emmanuel Macron until May 11.

The 10,000 inhabitants can thus enjoy the turquoise waters of the dozen paradise beaches on the island, but always within the framework set by the government: you must check the "physical activity" box of the exit certificate, and do not swim more than an hour. Swimming trips must be done alone or with people sharing the same home.

The Overseas Collectivity specifies to its citizens that there must not be "a sustainable installation on the beach." We bathe and dry ourselves ”.

In Saint-Barth?lemy, swimming was initially prohibited by the prefect of Guadeloupe Philippe Gustin; but on this territory of 21 km?, few gatherings contrary to social distancing have been observed on the white sand. Some surfers were fined during the third week of confinement.

The Collectivity had also taken a decree to limit noisy vehicles, certain inhabitants of this small and dense territory complaining of jack hammers and other breakers while they were cloistered at home; this ban has also been relaxed.

Construction equipment can speak again from this Thursday, but only in the morning. A decision taken "in order to reconcile the need to maintain part of the economic activity with that of maintaining correct conditions of containment".

Saint-Barth?lemy released two million euros on April 4 to procure rapid Covid-19 screening test machines. The first of these machines, manufactured in the United States by the company Cepheid and sold 110,000 euros each, is due to arrive next week.

The objective of the Collectivity is to reassure the population by carrying out massive tests, and to be able to plead for an anticipated deconfinement, according to the results.

For Saint-Barth?l?my, in the absence of new cases of Covid-19 since March 26 and without any more active case since April 21, the request expressed was that of a total deconfinement from May 11. Consequences, bars, restaurants, shops, will be able to restart their activity on this date, provided that the measures of distancing and gestures "barriers" are applied. Certain activities such as nightclubs could thus have stopped, distancing measures being difficult to implement. Another restriction, entries on the island will remain limited to the bare essentials.

Soon, a screening campaign

Among these methods, a screening campaign soon to be carried out on the island.
