Juba, South Sudan - South Sudan's government refuses to declare a cholera outbreak in Juba despite medical officials reporting confirmed and suspected cases from across the capital city.
According to the country's health ministry, 126 suspected cholera patients have been admitted to Juba's main hospital since June 12 and there have been seven suspected cholera deaths, including a woman who died on Sunday.

Cholera outbreak kills at least 18 in South Sudan

JUBA, June 23- At least 18 people have died of cholera in war-torn South Sudan, the health ministry said Tuesday, as it declared an outbreak of the highly contagious infection.

Minister of Health Riek Gai Kok told reporters that 171 cholera cases have been confirmed in the outbreak, which began in crowded United Nations bases in the capital Juba and spread elsewhere in the city.

Cholera deaths reach 20 as Juba outbreak spreads

Baku-APA. At least 29 people were killed by a cholera outbreak in South Sudan, the United Nations said Friday.

South Sudan officially declared a cholera outbreak on June 23, 2015, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

According to a statement released by UNICEF, the cholera outbreak had killed 484 people by the end of June...

Cholera cases reach nearly 1000 in S Sudan outbreak

At least 984 people have suffered from cholera since the disease broke out in Juba in late May, leading to 34 deaths, according to a health source.

The Central Equatoria State Minstry of Health says that cumulative number of cases as of 14 July is 984, with 30 new cases admitted to Juba Teaching Hospital and other related health facilities on 14 July with one death at the Gumbo Cholera Treatment Unit.

State Health Ministry Surveillance Officer Yona Kenyi said of the 33 deaths 18 occurred in Juba Teaching Hospital and 15 at other sites. The surveillance officer added that there is a high case fatality rate since the onset of the outbreak.

The World Health Organization reported similar figures in an update current to 13 July, saying there were a total of 953 cholera cases including 34 deaths. Of these, 866 cases were recorded in Juba County while 87 cases were recorded in Bor County...

Situation Update
As of 14 July 2015, a total of 985 cholera cases including 36 deaths (CFR 3.65%) have been reported in Juba
and Bor Counties in Central Equatoria and Jonglei States respectively. In Juba County, 893 cases including
35 deaths (CFR 3.9%) have been reported from eight Payams and 88 villages (Table 1). In Bor, 92 cases
including one death (CFR 1.09%) have been reported from Malou in Makuach Payam and other areas within
the county. The initial cases in Juba were traced back to 18 May 2015 in UN House PoC where the first cholera case was
confirmed on 1 June 2015. Most of the cholera cases in Juba have been reported from Gumbo followed by
New site, Gudele 2, and Juba 3 PoC (Figure 3).
In Bor, the initial cases were reported from Malou in Makuach Payam. Later, cases were reported from Arek,
Block 8, Hai Salam, Achengdii, Langbar and several other areas around the city.

Cholera cases increase in South Sudan

July 22, 2015 (NEW YORK) ? Reports of international health organizations have warned of increasing number of cholera cases in the young country, calling for prevention measures.

Over 1,200 cases have been reported in Juba county, where the seat of national government is based and in Bor county of Jonglei state.

"On South Sudan, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that more than 1,210 cholera cases, including 39 deaths, have been reported ? mostly in Juba county but also in Bor County,? reads the comments by representatives of the United Nations in New York on Tuesday...

Number of cholera fatalities in Juba and Bor still growing

As of 15 August 2015, a total of 1,581 cholera cases including 45 deaths have been reported in Juba and Bor Counties in Central Equatoria and Jonglei States respectively, the WHO and the Ministry of Health report. A cholera case in Pibor has been reported but is not confirmed.

There is a case fatality rate of 2,85%. In Juba County, 1,451 cases including 44 deaths have been reported from eight payams. In Bor, 130 cases including one death have been reported from Malou in Makuach Payam and other areas within the county...

New South Sudan cholera cases more than triple in a week

There were 88 new cases of cholera reported in South Sudan last week, compared to only 23 the week before, according to figures from the World Health Organization published by UNICEF.

The fatality rate for last week was 2.3%, nearly double the previous week's rate of 1.2%, said the child welfare agency in a cholera bulletin.

The new cases include 11 among soldiers at the Gondokoro military barracks, which UNICEF said raised fears of wider transmission due to military movements...

South Sudan cholera outbreak over

South Sudan's cholera outbreak is over, the ministry of health declared Tuesday, after 47 deaths from the disease.

There have been no new laboratory confirmed cases since 5 October, the UN's Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.

1818 cases were recorded this year in Central Equatoria and Jonglei states since the first confirmed instance of cholera on 1 June. 2.58% of patients died of the disease this year, OCHA said.
