[FONT=바탕]The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for African Swine Fever and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza ( Director Song Mee-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture , Food and Rural Affairs, hereinafter referred to as the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters ) announced on Thursday , February 19 that African swine fever was confirmed at a pig farm ( 3,400 pigs ) in Hwaseong , Gyeonggi Province , and highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1 type ) was confirmed at a laying hen farm ( 104,000 pigs ) in Bonghwa , Gyeongsangbuk -do , and a meat duck farm ( 29,000 pigs ) in Gurye, Jeollanam-do .

[FONT=바탕]The farm where the outbreak occurred in Hwaseong this time was finally confirmed to have African swine fever as a result of a detailed inspection conducted today due to an increase in piglet deaths during the process of collecting carcass samples for a nationwide inspection of pig farms ( carcasses and environment ) .

[FONT=바탕]As African swine fever was confirmed at a pig farm in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters immediately dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the site to control entry of outsiders and vehicles into the farm (from February 19th) . To prevent further spread , the pigs at the farm where the disease occurred were culled , and emergency quarantine measures such as disinfection and epidemiological investigations were implemented .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Second , a temporary standstill order was issued for 24 hours from 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 19 to 5:00 PM on Friday , February 20 for workers and vehicles at livestock-related facilities such as pig farms , slaughterhouses , and feed factories in Hwaseong , Gyeonggi Province and five adjacent cities and counties ( Yongin , Pyeongtaek , Ansan, Suwon, and Osan , Gyeonggi Province) , and compliance is being monitored .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Third , to block the spread of the virus within the outbreak area, we are mobilizing all 42 available disinfection resources, including wide-area disinfection equipment and disinfection vehicles, to intensively disinfect 248 pig farms and surrounding roads in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province and five adjacent cities and counties . In addition , since February 19 , the Central Mobile Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Team has been dispatched to the outbreak city and county to comprehensively manage the on-site situation, including culling, burial, and disposal of residual materials .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Fourth , urgent detailed inspections are being conducted on 64 farms within a 10km quarantine zone around the outbreak farm and 79 pig farms with epidemiological links to the outbreak farm , clinical examinations are being conducted on 694 slaughterhouse epidemiological farms , and cleaning and disinfection are being conducted on 195 vehicles related to the epidemiological link .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]To prevent the spread of African swine fever, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will strengthen environmental , facility , and vehicle inspections of farms and slaughterhouses, and conduct clinical and detailed inspections of quarantine teams and epidemiological farms . Furthermore, intensive disinfection of livestock farms and related facilities nationwide will be promoted after the Lunar New Year holiday .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]First , an inspection * will be conducted on dead pigs and live animal transport vehicles at approximately 5,300 pig farms nationwide .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]In addition, we plan to consider administrative measures such as cancellation of manufacturing registration or suspension of business in accordance with Article 25 of the same Act , and imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million won in accordance with Article 33 .

[FONT=바탕]First , as African swine fever was confirmed at a pig farm in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters immediately dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the site to control entry of outsiders and vehicles into the farm (from February 19th). To prevent further spread , the pigs at the farm where the disease occurred are being disposed of, and emergency quarantine measures such as disinfection and epidemiological investigations are being implemented .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Second , a temporary standstill order was issued for 24 hours from 3:00 PM on Friday, February 20 to 3:00 PM on Saturday , February 21 for workers and vehicles at livestock-related facilities such as pig farms, slaughterhouses, and feed factories in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province and three adjacent cities and counties ( Hwacheon , Gangwon Province , Yeoncheon and Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province ) , and compliance is being monitored .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Third , to block the spread of the virus within the outbreak area, we are mobilizing all 31 available disinfection resources , including wide-area disinfection equipment and disinfection vehicles , to intensively disinfect pig farms ( No. 181 ) and surrounding roads in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do and three adjacent cities and counties . In addition, since February 20 , the Central Mobile Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Team has been dispatched to the outbreak city and county to comprehensively manage the on-site situation, including burial and disposal of residual materials at the outbreak farm .[/FONT]

Korea confirmed a new African swine fever (ASF) case at a pig farm in the southern county of Euiryeong on Monday, in what marked the 20th case of such an infection in South Korea this season.

As part of efforts to prevent additional infections, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters plans to conduct an epidemiological investigation and restrict access to the site in the county in South Gyeongsang Province. All pigs at the affected farm will be culled.​..

[FONT=바탕]First , as African swine fever was confirmed at a pig farm in Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters immediately dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the site to control entry of outsiders and vehicles into the farm (from February 23rd). In addition , to prevent further spread, pigs at the affected farm are being processed and buried, and emergency quarantine measures such as disinfection and epidemiological investigation are being implemented .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Second , a temporary standstill order was issued for 24 hours from 8:30 PM on Monday, February 23 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday , February 24 for workers and vehicles at livestock-related facilities such as pig farms , slaughterhouses , and feed factories in Uiryeong , Gyeongnam , and five adjacent cities and counties ( Hapcheon , Changnyeong , Haman , Jinju , and Sancheong ) , and compliance is being checked .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]Third , to block the spread of the virus within the outbreak area, we are mobilizing all 43 available disinfection resources , including wide-area disinfection equipment and disinfection vehicles , to intensively disinfect pig farms ( No. 207 ) and surrounding roads in Uiryeong, Gyeongsangnam-do and five adjacent cities and counties . In addition, since February 23 , the Central Mobile Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Team has been dispatched to the outbreak city and county to comprehensively manage the on-site situation, including burial and disposal of residual materials at the outbreak farm .[/FONT]

To prevent further spread , the headquarters is promptly culling all pigs being raised at the affected farms ( 5,050 pigs in Sancheong and 2,647 pigs in Hampyeong ) and is implementing emergency quarantine measures such as disinfection and epidemiological investigation .

[FONT=바탕]Second , to prevent the spread of African swine fever, a standstill order was issued for 24 hours from 23:30 on March 16 ( Mon ) to 23:30 on March 17 ( Tue ) , and compliance is being checked .

[FONT=바탕]Third , to prevent the spread of the virus within the affected area, 74 available resources , including wide-area disinfection machines and disinfection vehicles , will be mobilized to intensively disinfect pig farms (429 ) and surrounding roads located near Sancheong , Gyeongnam and Hampyeong, Jeonnam .

South Korea reports 24 African swine fever cases this year: Data​

BERNAMA/YONHAP – South Korea has reported 24 confirmed cases of African swine fever (ASF) as of this week in 2026, the Agriculture Ministry said, vowing to take actions to prevent further spread of the contagious animal disease.

The cases were reported from seven provinces, including Gyeonggi, Gangwon, South Chungcheong, South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang, between January 16 and March 16, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

No additional cases have been reported since the middle of March.

Of the 24 cases, three cases were of strains previously identified in domestic outbreaks, while 21 cases were found to be of strains that originated outside the country, the ministry said.

Notably, ASF genes were detected in six undeclared illegal livestock products, suggesting the possible introduction of external sources of contamination, with three ASF cases that broke out at pig farms in the northern cities of Pocheon and Yeoncheon found to have been caused by transmission from wild boars, it added.

With no further outbreaks reported for the past two months, the ministry has lifted standstill orders on related facilities in regions affected with ASF on April 22, but is keeping a warning alert issued for 32 cities and counties more likely to experience additional cases...
