Malaria kills two in Limpopo

Two siblings died from malaria in Mopane at the weekend, the Limpopo health department said.

The pair were believed to be between nine and 13-years-old, said spokesman Cecil Motsepe.

"They were admitted into Malamulele hospital over the weekend, diagnosed with malaria and treated... but they sadly died."

The gender of the siblings was not yet known.

At least 440 cases of malaria have been reported in Limpopo, provincial health department spokesman Cecil Motsepe said on Wednesday.

?During the last two weeks, an increase in the notification of malaria cases was observed in Limpopo.

?This increase is mostly confined to the known malaria high-risk areas; the north-eastern parts of Vhembe district and eastern Mopani.?

Three people died from malaria in the Musina, Donald Fraser and Malamulele hospitals last week...

Mbombela - Six people have died of malaria in Mpumalanga since September last year, compared to five deaths reported in the same period in 2009/10.

The number of cases has also risen from 515 to 697, said spokesperson for the Mpumalanga department of health and social development Mpho Gabashane on Monday.

?This shows that malaria cases have shown a steady increase this financial year in the province,? said Gabashane

Malaria claims Ethiopians in Eastern Cape

Two Ethiopian nationals have died of malaria after being admitted to an East London hospital, the Eastern Cape health department said on Friday.

Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the men arrived in South Africa earlier this month, and had contracted the disease elsewhere.
