There is now a shortage of beds at many hospitals in Hong Kong as demand continues to surge because of a spike in flu cases. More and more public hospitals are now operating at over 100 percent capacity, the Hospital Authority said.
The Authority's director of Cluster Services, Dr Cheung Wai-lun, said around half the patients now have to wait at least eight hours at emergency wards before they can be admitted.
But he said the doctors at the emergency section are making sure that the patients are being well taken care of.
