A third case of bird flu has been confirmed

The third case of avian influenza (H5N1) this year has been confirmed in Slovenia, this time with a dead swan in the municipality of Hoče-Slivnica. There are already seven Styrian municipalities in the endangered 10-kilometer area, which includes the largest poultry farmers in Slovenia. Breeders are subject to strict measures, some of which are extended to the whole country.

The Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Medicine and Plant Protection informed the public on Monday about the first case of bird flu this year. It was confirmed in domestic poultry on a small farm in the municipality of Slovenska Bistrica. This is the first case of bird flu in domestic poultry in Slovenia.

On Tuesday, the administration reported on bird flu in a dead swan in Pragersko, and today on another swan in the municipality of Hoče-Slivnica.

According to Radio Slovenia, two more cases of infected swans were confirmed today, namely in Slovenska Bistrica. The Food Safety Authority has not yet listed these cases on its website.
