African Swine Fever Virus Finds Its Way into Slovakia for First Time

Bratislava, July 25 (TASR) ? The African swine fever virus (ASFV) has been diagnosed for the first time in Slovakia, with a case confirmed in Strazne (Kosice region) near the border with Hungary, the Agriculture Ministry reported on Thursday.
The ministry?s press team stated that the presence of the disease has been confirmed by an examination of biological material at the national reference laboratory. Fresh case of swine fever in Slovakia as eastern Europe scrambles to contain disease

A fresh case of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been discovered in Slovakia in a village near the Hungarian border.
The farm, in Ko?ice province, had just four pigs but all of the pigs in a three-kilometre radius of the outbreak were culled.
It was found approximately five kilometres from the initial outbreak, which occurred two weeks ago.
Slovakian authorises say they will establish protection and surveillance zones in a bid to prevent further spread of the disease...

African swine fever has spread further in the eastern-Slovak district of Trebi?ov. Two more cases were confirmed on August 7, the SITA newswire reported.
Altogether four cases have been confirmed so far, the last two in Somotor and in Rad village, a few kilometres from the other cases...
African Swine Fever Spreading in Eastern Slovakia, Dozen Cases Reported

Trebisov, August 16 (TASR) ? New sources of infection with African swine fever were reported in Trebisov district (Kosice region) on Friday, meaning that ten private pig farms have now been reported as infected, while the disease has also been diagnosed in two wild boars, the Agriculture Ministry announced on the same day.
?A wild boar was found in an area with earlier confirmed cases at small private pig farms,? reported the State Veterinary and Food Administration. One wild boar with the disease was found in the same area earlier this week.
According to the veterinary authority, all the new cases of African swine fever have been found in the same area as earlier contractions of the disease...
The State Veterinary and Food Administration earlier on Friday issued an order for users of all hunting districts in Slovakia to initiate intense hunting of wild boars across the country, even with the use of some usually forbidden means, in order to contain the spread of African swine fever.
