Contacts of worker who died of diphtheria in stable condition

SINGAPORE ? Two close contacts of the foreign worker who recently died of diphtheria, the first local case of the disease in Singapore in 25 years, are in stable condition in hospital, the Health Ministry said this evening in an update.
Both had developed a sore throat since Thursday and are currently isolated in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Their respiratory samples have been taken for diphtheria testing, and the results are pending, said the ministry....
...The deceased was a 21-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker who lived in a dormitory in Yishun Avenue 7 and worked in Teban Gardens. He died on Friday.
Screening has also been done for another 46 people who were identified as having come into close contact with him. As with the two in hospital, they have been given preventive medication and a booster diphtheria vaccine.
The dead worker had not travelled out of Singapore recently...
