Serbia: Confirmed 184 cases of patients with influenza, 16 people died

BELGRADE - As of this day, up to 11 hours, the total number of reported laboratory confirmed cases of influenza is 184, said Tanjug Head of the Control of Infectious Diseases Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Batut" Dr. Dragan Dimitrijevic.



She added that the 155 people confirmed influenza virus A H1N1, 21 patients with influenza A virus H3N2, the two persons of type A influenza virus and the six influenza virus type B
Ten patients were in serious condition and are in the intensive care unit. Dimitrijevic said that Serbia has registered 16 deaths in which influenza virus was detected and the identity of persons aged 27 to 74 years, including one person with unknown vaccination status, and 15 people were unvaccinated. According to her, the 10 deceased persons belonged to population groups at risk - a chronic lung, heart, diabetes and severe obesity.
So far, the Institute of Public Health of Serbia reported outbreaks of influenza among the population in Belgrade, Pirot and the territory of Vojvodina.
'The intensity of influenza activity in Serbia is high and the incidence is above the epidemic threshold approach, "said Dr Dimitrijevic, adding that Europe continued high activity of influenza, especially in the eastern, southeastern and eastern European region, while in the western part registered declining influenza activity.
