Romanian Times
Swine flu has claimed its second victim in Romania, health authorities announced today (Tues).
Health Ministry officials said a 58-year-old woman in Bucecea, in Romania's northeastern county of Botosani, died yesterday evening. They said she had also been suffering from diabetes and obesity.
The woman died at the local infectious diseases hospital in Botosani where she had been admitted late last week with swine flu and severe lung problems.
The ministry said ten patients admitted to the infectious diseases hospital in Iasi, eastern Romania, with severe forms of the A/H1N1 flu virus were in stable condition.
Romania on Monday registered its first swine flu death. Authorities said the victim had been a man from Siret, in the northeastern county of Suceava, bordering the Ukraine.
Romania has registered 190 cases with the AH1N1 flu virus over the past 24 hours, while the total number of cases stands at 2258.
Worldwide, the number of AH1N1 fatalities stands at 7,860, of which, 1,265 have been in the United States, 216 in Great Britain, 76 in Italy, 34 in Germany, seven in Hungary, 11 in Sweden, 115 in Spain and 23 in Norway, the ministry said.
