State Health Officials report the first flu death of the season.

Officials say it was a Pennington County resident between the age of 90 and 99 who had Influenza ?B? and was hospitalized.

So far this year South Dakota has reported 156 confirmed cases of the flu and 28 flu related hospitalizations.

Pennington County reported its second influenza-related death of the season last week, the state Department of Health announced Friday.

Influenza activity increased to "regional" levels in South Dakota for the week ending Dec. 8, with several long-term care facilities in the state reporting outbreaks. The Pennington County death was an elderly person in the 90 and over age group...
