Marion E. BROOKS Marion Esther Brooks died peacefully of H1N1 flu at her son's home early New Year's Day 2010. Born Marion Berger on May 20, 1908, in Toppenish, WA, she grew up in the Yakima Valley, graduated from Whitman College in 1930, then taught elementary school in Wapato, WA. She married Winston M. Brooks of Wapato in 1933 and they moved to Seattle. She raised two children and then worked for the Washington State Unemployment Office until her retirement in 1970. Marion and Winston enjoyed ballroom dancing, bridge, and any gathering of family and friends. Winston predeceased her in 1990. Marion is survived by her daughter Peg Herrick of Everett and her son Don Brooks (Gail) of Seattle. She also leaves five devoted grandchildren: Kevin Herrick (Tami) of Lynnwood, Russ Herrick (Irene) of Everett, Debbie Plasencia (Frank) of Sacramento, Robert Brooks (Anne) of Greenbrae, CA, and Kim Ponthier (Jaime) of Olympia, and numerous great-grandchildren. A private family gathering is planned. Marion's family wishes to thank the staff of Bayview Manor Retirement Community of Seattle for providing excellent service during Marion's 16 years of residence. In lieu of flowers, Marion requested memorial gifts to be sent to Ryther Child Center, 2400 NE 95th St., Seattle, WA 98115.
