Legionnaires' outbreak on the increase as five people are confirmed with the disease in Glasgow

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde today said another two people were being treated in hospital following last week's three confirmed cases.


TWO more people have been admitted to hospital with Legionnaires' disease in the greater Glasgow area, taking the number of confirmed cases to five.

The two patients are being treated in hospital and are responding well to treatment, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) said.

Three cases were reported last week by the health board, with two of the patients having been released from hospital and the third described as in a stable condition and responding well to treatment.

Health experts have identified Renfrew as a common factor in all five cases and investigations into the source of the disease are being focused on the town...

A FRESH case of Legionnaire's disease has been identified.

The latest case in Renfrew brings the total number of people infected with the potentially fatal disease to six.

Health officials continue to search for a source of the outbreak, which began last month. They have treated all cooling towers within four miles of patients' homes with chemicals to kill any Legionella bacteria as a precaution...

A FURTHER two cases of Legionnaires' Disease linked to the Renfrew area have been confirmed ? bringing the total number to eight.

Both of the current victims are responding well to treatment at home and all the previously reported cases are now fully recovered.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde' is continuing to work closely with other public bodies to identify the source of the infection...

THERE are now a total of 10 cases in the recent outbreak all of which have been linked to the Renfrew area.

Two further cases of Legionnaires' disease linked to the Renfrew area have been confirmed, making a total of 10.

One of the latest victims is recovering in hospital and the other is responding well to treatment at home, health officials said.

All of the previously infected people have since recovered...
