A case of BSE, commonly known as mad cow disease, has been confirmed on a farm in Aberdeenshire. It?s the first in Scotland in nearly ten years.

The Animal Health Agency (APHA) said it is investigating the source of the outbreak, which was detected during routine monitoring work. Movement restrictions have been placed on cattle at the farm in question and authorities are looking to identify the origin of the disease. The case is believed to be isolated...

[TD]Isolated case of classical Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) has been confirmed in a five-year-old indigenous cow in Aberdeenshire. The animal died on farm and the case was detected during routine surveillance of fallen stock cattle. The animal was not presented for slaughter and did not enter the food chain. There is no threat to food safety or human health. Four other bovines from the herd will be destroyed as a precaution.[/TD]
