3 more die of swine flu

JEDDAH: The Ministry of Health on Thursday announced the death of three Saudis suffering from swine flu, bringing the total number of deaths caused by H1N1 virus in the Kingdom to 19.

The ministry did not disclose the names of the new swine flu victims nor their ages. According to a previous statement issued by the ministry, hospitals in the Kingdom have treated about 2,000 cases of swine flu since May 27, adding that 95 percent of them have fully recovered. ?Most swine flu fatalities in the Kingdom were patients with a history of chronic chest and lung diseases,? said Dr. Khaled Mirghalani, spokesman of the ministry.

The first case of swine flu in the Kingdom was diagnosed in a Filipino nurse who returned to Riyadh following her annual vacation in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry said it would organize a scientific seminar next month on the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent the spread of swine flu.

A state of anxiety experienced by male pilgrims from various Arab and Islamic countries, after the announcement of the Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia today, Thursday, the death of 3 cases of swine influenza, bringing the number of cases of the disease in the Kingdom of the deceased 19 cases so far.

ووفقاً للأرقام الرسمية، فإن المملكة شهدت 2000 حالة إصابة بالمرض، تم شفاء 95% منهم، ويأتى ذلك فى الوقت الذى تتزايد فيه المطالب بوقف موسم العمرة والحج لهذا العام.​

According to official figures, the Kingdom has experienced 2000 cases of infection, have recovered 95% of them and comes at a time of increasing demands to halt and Hajj pilgrimage season this year.

وفى محاولة لإيجاد حلول مرضية للجميع، ابتعدت الحكومة المصرية عن الإلغاء، لتكتفى بتحديد الشرائح المسموح لها بالسفر لأداء العمرة وهم من سن 25 إلى 65 فقط، وهو الأمر الذى أثر سلباً على شركات السياحة وخلق أزمة بينها وبين الوزير زهير جرانة خلال الأيام القليلة الماضية، بل أعلن عدد من أصحاب الشركات عزمهم مقاضاة رئيس الوزراء د.أحمد نظيف.​

98% H1N1 victims recovered

RIYADH: Ninety-eight percent of the 3,500 people who contracted the H1N1 virus in the Kingdom have recovered from swine flu, the Health Ministry said.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the ministry said the health condition of thousands of pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah was satisfactory.

"The number of swine flu cases reported among pilgrims in Makkah since the beginning of Ramadan was 28. None of them have died and all of them have recovered," the ministry said.

As many as 265 swine flu cases have been reported in Makkah since the virus first appeared in the Kingdom on May 27. In Madinah, a total of 206 cases have been reported including 17 during Ramadan.

"We have not noticed any increase in swine flu cases during the Umrah season of Ramadan compared to previous months," the ministry said. It also reported the death of four Saudis including three women recently, bringing the total number of swine flu deaths in the Kingdom to 23, adding that most of them died of previous health complications.

"The rate of swine flu deaths in the Kingdom stood at 0.66 percent, coping with the international rate," the ministry pointed out.
