Campus safety conference scheduled at VCU today

RICHMOND
Higher education professionals from across the country are gathering for a college campus safety conference at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Among the panel discussions Monday will be last year's massacre at Virginia Tech. The topics will include threat assessment processes; legal issues in reporting students and faculty who demonstrate unusual or threatening behavior; decision making during a crisis, and the screening process for student admissions.
The second annual Governor's Campus Preparedness Conference starts at 9 a.m.
Panelists will discuss a range of topics including, pandemic influenza and communication preparedness. Local panelists include Jim Talbot with the City of Norfolk, Chief Jeff Brown of Christopher Newport University police. Other panelists are from the state's colleges and universities, including Virginia Tech.
