As the President of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute (FLI),Thomas Mettenleiter, said the virus has been detected in summer 2016 in wild birds in Central Russia, Siberia and Mongolia.Since the organisms currently occurring in Central Europe are "very similar" to the species found in summer, it can be assumed that they have migrated westwards through wild birds.
