In Mongolia, on the border of Russia, according to the results of the analysis of a dead baby marmot, a pathogen of bubonic plague was found, said Lhunrev Rolomzhav, head of the public health department of the emergency working service of the National Center for the Study of Zoonotic Infections of the Republic.

“On July 19, a dead groundhog cub was brought from Zavkhan aimag. Bacteriological studies on the condition showed the content of the bubonic plague pathogen in the samples, ”she said in an interview with TASS.

According to Rolomzhav, there are no people infected with bubonic plague in the aimag. In connection with the discovery of the pathogen, the local population and tourists were reminded of the ban on hunting marmots and eating their meat, she added.

Recall that at the end of June, 137 natural foci of bubonic plague were detected in Mongolia in 17 regions of the country, including those located on the border with Russia and China. In these regions, cases of the disease are recorded annually, as well as deaths of people from the plague, in the last decade the incidence has increased there.

The closest natural foci of bubonic plague in Mongolia to Russia are located in the northwestern Uvs region on the border with the Republic of Tyva, and last year Russian and Mongolian epidemiologists recorded an increase in disease activity in this region.
