Bird flu antibodies detected in wild fowl in Altai territory

BARNAUL, May 10 (Itar-Tass) - Veterinaries in Russia's Altai Territory said they had detected antibodies to the deadly H5N1 strain in five wild ducks in three districts.
The monitoring was conducted in late April in the Klyuchevskoi, Uglovsky and Khabarsky districts. Specialists ran tests on 66 blood samples, the regional veterinary department told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"One duck shot on Lake Shuga in the Uglovsky district, and four ducks from Lake Gusinoye, Khabarsky district, were disease carries, and must have had contacts with sick birds," the department said.
As of now, all domestic poultry in the Khabarsky and Uglovsky districts has been inoculated. The owners of domestic birds are not allowed to let them out to open water basins.
"These measures will help prevent the spreading of bird flu in Altai," specialists said
