The first outbreak of avian influenza in Russia in 2022 was detected in Moscow

The first outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HAI) in Russia in 2022 was identified in the wild in Moscow. The virus was found in mute swans. This is stated in the message of the information and analytical center of Rosselkhoznadzor.

As follows from the message, four birds fell ill, two fell. Mute swans have a subtype of the H5N1 virus.

A focus of highly pathogenic avian influenza was recorded in swans in the Yakimanka region.

A house for swans, located within the boundaries of the Maly Golitsynsky Pond on the territory of the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Recreation, has been declared an epizootic focus. This is stated in the order of the mayor of Moscow on the announcement of quarantine. The document clarifies that the case of AIV in birds was detected on January 24, 2022.

The threatened zone included 20 districts of Moscow, including Yakimanka, Khamovniki, Arbat, Presnensky, Tverskoy, Meshchansky.

In 2021, 68 AIV outbreaks were registered in Russia: 54 among poultry and 14 in wild fauna...
