Probable Case of Monkeypox in RI Believed to Be Related to Travel to Mass.

Health officials announced the first probable case of monkeypox in Rhode Island on Thursday morning.

The case is in a man in his 30s who lives in Providence County, the Rhode Island Department of Health said. The man tested positive for an orthopox virus, and confirmation for monkeypox is pending testing at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The man is not hospitalized and is in good condition.

The case is believed to be related to travel to Massachusetts, health officials said. No additional positive cases have been detected in Rhode Island...

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — At least three Rhode Island residents have now tested positive for monkeypox, according to the R.I. Department of Health.

Health Department spokesperson Joseph Wendelken says the federal government is using a very specific formula for allocating doses of the vaccine to states and Rhode Island has received a “very small amount.”

“Because of Rhode Island’s size and other factors related to historical data on sexually transmitted infections, we have been allocated much less vaccine than other states,” Wendelken told 12 News...
