Regional Council of Pharmacy of Brazil seeks release of Tamiflu in the state
The Regional Council of Pharmacy of the State of S?o Paulo sent letters to federal, state and municipal claims to release the sale of the drug Oseltamivir (marketed under the name Tamiflu) in pharmacies in the state.
The organization questioned the amount of doses available for the state and distribution of medicine. For the board, the direct selling improve patient care, "avoiding the current bureaucracy that generates a very big delay between the identification, notification and initiation of treatment."
Ministry of Health gives autonomy to physician prescribing
In this Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced that it will change the protocol of treatment for influenza A. So far, the drug Tamiflu should be administered only to patients with severe symptoms of the disease or at risk groups. Now, the Ministry decided to give more autonomy to doctors. They are released to prescribe the drug to patients who find it convenient, even without severe symptoms or are out of risk groups.
It is the third time the Ministry changed the protocol for the treatment of disease. At the beginning of the epidemic, the recommendation was that the drug was administered to any person showing symptoms of influenza. Then there was the restriction to groups at risk. The new protocol should emphasize that it is the responsibility of doctors and health authorities of states and municipalities to prescribe the medicine.
The recommendation of the Ministry of Health for that Tamiflu be administered only in patients who showed worsening of symptoms was challenged by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF). Last week, the MPF requested clarification on the protocol, arguing that the evaluation of infectious disease, to take effect when given Tamiflu within 48 hours of onset of symptoms...
