Rare disease claims 22 in Alwar

JAIPUR: While the health and medical department has launched massive awareness campaigns to fight malaria and dengue, a rare zoonotic disease 'scrub typhus' has claimed 22 lives, so far, in Rajgarh area of Alwar district this season.

Another six have died due to a disease with similar symptoms in Dausa.

Last year too, nearly 60 died due to scrub typhus in Alwar district. The health department had then called the disease 'mysterious' and didn't send blood samples for tests.

Scrub typhus: 20 suspected cases in Jaipur rural

JAIPUR: The scrub typhus menace is spreading fast and has now got the rural parts of the city in its grip.

First reported in Alwar, the rare fever has, so far, claimed three lives, while 20 suspected cases have been detected in Jaipur district.

The medical health and family welfare department claimed that confirmed cases of scrub typhus have been found in Viratnagar area in Jaipur.

Two dead as rare fever breaks out in Bundi

Two women in the district in Rajasthan have died of a rare fever called typhus, which usually strikes in snow-clad places, a health department official said.

Chief Medical and Health Officer of Bundi district Dr O P Verma said Prembai (40) in Diyali village and Ramdhani (35) in Paie village had succumbed to the fever which generally strikes in snow-clad places.

He said outbreak of typhus in a hot region like Rajasthan was a matter of "great concern" as its generally strikes snow clad cool places.
