Qatar University team begins research on bird flu

DOHA: A team from Qatar University has commenced studies on bird flu to help international efforts aimed at curbing the outbreak of the disease.
This was announced by Dr Siham Yusuf AlQaradawi, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), on the occasion of 25th Anniversary of QU?s Department of Health Sciences.
She said the college attaches immense significance to international developments regarding bird flu, especially HSN1 and its impact on the health of humans.
She added the team will make all possible efforts to help endeavours taken to stop the spread of HSN1 virus that has been proved the most infectious disease. ?The team is now discussing essential subjects related to the biological basis for the virus, chances of diagnose and epidemic planning and intervention for public health.
QU had earlier hosted an Avian Flu Forum where top global health experts discussed the global implications of the virus and the impact on communities in the Middle East and Asia. Representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Johns Hopkins Hospital USA, Qatar Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, and Hamad Medical Corporation topped the list of over 100 participants who participated the significant forum.
