Qatar cancels further H1N1 vaccines

Qatar health officials have cancelled further H1N1 vaccine orders after a luke warm response by the public to the vaccination campaign.
According to a report in The Peninsula, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) had placed orders for 1.5 million doses of the swine flu vaccine.
Some 500,000 of these have already been delivered, but the remainder will be scrapped and replaced with orders for other medicines, an official said.
Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, director of the Public Health Department at SCH, said: ?We are currently having discussions with the manufacturing companies about replacing the vaccine with other medicines required by the country.?
?Demand for the vaccine has come down with a decline in H1N1 cases. However, we will make sure that the country has enough stocks to meet any possible surge in the cases in future,? he said.
About 40,000 Qataris have been vaccinated against H1N1, including 21,000 children, the paper reported.
