Qatar announces first H1N1 flu cases, two boys

DUBAI, June 16 (Reuters) - Qatar announced on Tuesday two cases of the H1N1 flu virus in two foreign children who arrived from the United States and Austria, the first cases in the small Gulf Arab country.

The two boys showed flu symptoms on arrival, were given treatment and were recovering, Health Minister Abdullah al-Qahtani said in comments on state-run Qatar News Agency.

The first case was a two-year-old boy from New Zealand who arrived on Saturday with his family from Austria and the second was a two-and-a-half-year old American boy who came from New York on Sunday via Bangladesh, the minister said.

Flu cases have been detected in four other Gulf Arab states -- Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Qatar identifies 3rd H1N1 flu case in Iraqi teenager

DUBAI (Reuters) - Qatar identified its third H1N1 flu case in Qatar in an Iraqi teenager after announcing its first two cases in two boys, the health minister said on Tuesday.

The 17-year old Iraqi teenager, who came to Qatar on Saturday on a flight from Washington, was given treatment and is in recovery, Abdullah al-Qahtani said, the state-run Qatar News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The first case was a two-year-old boy from New Zealand who arrived on Saturday with his family from Austria and the second was a two-and-a-half-year old American boy who came from New York on Sunday on a transit flight heading to Bangladesh, the minister said earlier.

Flu cases have been detected in four other Gulf Arab states -- Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain.
