For the better part of an hour Sharon Sanders of FluTrackers and I have been huddled on Skype trying to track down a story ? first tweeted by @makoto_au_japon ? regarding a MERS-CoV case in Qatar. After checking a number of sources, including Qatar?s Supreme Council of Health, we finally found the following English language news bulletin issued by the Qatar News Agency.

SCH Reports New Case of Coronavirus

Articale No:35
Articale Date:10/17/2013
Articale Time:4:01 PM
Doha ,October 17 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) registered Thursday a new case of the deadly coronavirus after a Qatari man was diagnosed with flu . The 61-year-old man was diagnosed in the national center for flu, the SCH said in a press statement. The Qatari man also suffers from chronic diseases, the SCH statement added . It said the patient now receives treatment and his health condition is stable. The statement noted that the epidemiological investigation procedures showed that the patient did not travel outside the country during the two weeks prior to the onset of symptoms and he has not been subjected to socialize with a confirmed case . All the patient 's family members and others were checked up and the initial results were negative, the statement said .(QNA)

The lack of travel history, or known contact with a MERS infected individual, is sure to raise new questions over how this virus is transmitting to humans.

I would note that Crof over at Crofsblog also has this story, from an Arabic source (see Qatar reports a new MERS case).
