The death of some chickens in a poultry farm at Bhawanigarh town of the district on Sunday has caused panic in the area forcing officials from the animal husbandry and a team of doctors to inspect the farm and collect samples of the dead and alive chickens in this and several other poultry farms of the region.

"We found that nearly 15 chickens had died within hours on Sunday in the farm at Bhawanigarh. We have collected samples of the dead and alive chickens from the farm, which has more than 10,000 chickens, and sent them to the Regional Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory (RDDL), Jalandhar," said Dr Manohar Lal, deputy director, animal husbandry department, Sangrur.
