Pune, Aug 30 (PTI) Two infants died of swine flu in government Sassoon hospital here today, taking the toll in the city to 29. The casualties were a 15-month-old girl Nikita Shedge and a nine-month-old boy Mohammad Shaikh, hospital sources said.
Both the victims succumbed to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) after testing positive for the virus and could not be revived on ventilator.

2 babies among 4 dead, H1N1 toll 31

Two babies, nine-month-old Mohammad Mehboob Shaikh and 15-month-old Nikita Shedage, were among the four who died of swine flu in Pune on Sunday. With this, the total H1N1 death toll till Sunday night reached 31 in the city. The other two who died were 42-year-old Vilas Padale and 26-year-old Anil Sahdeo Nikam.

Mohammad Mehboob Shaikh of Bhawani Peth died of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) after battling for life for three days at Sassoon Hospital. Fifteen-month-old Nikita Shedage was admitted to KEM on August 27 and was shifted to Sassoon on Sunday where she passed away on Sunday evening. Doctors said the child was gasping for breath when she arrived at Sassoon.

Nikita passed away at 6.30 pm and Mohammad Mehboob Shaikh died an hour later.

Lonavala resident Vilas Padale died at KEM Hospital in the afternoon. Padale is the second person from Lonavala to have died of swine flu since the outbreak. He was a railway employee, according to the Pune Municipal Corporation health officials.
