The Puducherry government is taking all steps to prevent the spread of Swine Flu in the Union Territory, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said today. In an informal chat with newspersons after garlanding the Gandhi statue on the occasion of his death anniversary, the Chief Minister said the health department had given information that two persons had died of H1N1.

Three persons died among the 24 admitted to hospitals here with the symptoms of H1N1, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said today. Talking to newspersons, Mr.Rao said two doctors are being treated at Jipmer hospital for Swine Flu. One doctor is from Indira Gandhi Government General hospital and other from Jipmer. Stating that those with cold and fever for more than one week should come to the hospital and check for Swine Flu, the Minister said a separate ward was arranged at the T B hospital with eight beds to treat patients.

Summary: The death toll because of H1N1 rose to four with the death of a 39-year-old person from Ariyankuppam in Puducherry, who had tested positive for H1N1 with co-morbidity complications at a private hospital in Chennai. With this, the number of H1N1 patients has increased to 31 as on February 2. Among those who tested positive for H1N1 is a four-and-a-half-year-old child from Madagadipet. A senior doctor in the Public Health Department said the patient had been admitted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) after being tested positive. ?The patient?s family opted to shift him to a private hospital where he died on Thursday,? he said.
The death toll because of H1N1 rose to five with the death of a 50-year-old man from Murungapakkam in Puducherry. He had tested positive for H1N1 at a private hospital in Puducherry.
A senior doctor in the Public Health Department said Madialagan had been admitted to a private hospital in the city recently following a kidney ailment. He had high fever and tested positive for H1N1 following which he was shifted to a private hospital in Chennai where he died on Monday.
Meanwhile, three persons tested positive for H1N1 on Monday. With this, the number of H1N1 patients has increased to 38 in Puducherry.

One more person died of swine flu at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research here on Thursday taking the death toll to six. Karthick, 35, a resident of Murungapakkam, was admitted in JIPMER last week with respiratory complaints and fever. On Thursday, another 11 people who were tested positive for Influenza A (H1N1) have been admitted in the hospital. They are from Gorimedu, Murungapakkam, Ariankuppam, Chettitheruvu, and Arumparathapuram areas.
