DANVILLE ? Prisoners at the Danville Correctional Center have the seasonal flu and H1N1, better known as swine flu.

The prison remains on lockdown a week and a half later since first closing its doors to visitors, according to Sharyn Elmen, chief public information officer for the Illinois Department of Corrections.

She said a few more prisoners have been affected, but some also are getting better. About 30 prisoners have been sick with the flu.

?It?s not more serious,? Elmen said about the H1N1 cases.

It?s the same protocol with all the flu cases, she said about cleaning and sanitizing the facility.

?We?ve got it contained. We?re dealing with it and there is no need for concern,? Elmen said.

She said the prison will remain on lockdown possibly until sometime next week. Officials are taking it day by day.

?We don?t want to infect anybody that comes in from the outside,? Elmen said.

SPRINGFIELD - Inmates at two Illinois prisons are being kept locked in their cells because of an outbreak of the flu.

The Illinois Department of Corrections placed Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro on lockdown Monday because a number of inmates were complaining of flu symptons. Danville Correctional Center has been locked down since last week after prisoners came down with chills, fevers and respiratory ailments.

Corrections spokeswoman Sharyn Elman said officials are treating the ill inmates at the two medium-security lockups and trying to keep the flu from spreading by keeping prisoners in their cells. The department has temporarily stopped allowing visitors at the two prisons.

"We've been following all of the pandemic protocols," Elman said...
