VADODARA: A pregnant woman suffering from swine flu died at a private clinic in Godhra. The woman was brought to the hospital in the wee hours of Thursday and died after a brief treatment.
While officials denied to disclose the identity of the woman, they said that she was from Santrampur and was suffering from flu-like symptoms for the last two days. When her condition worsened she was rushed to the New Life Hospital at Godhra where she was admitted.
The hospital authorities alerted the district health officer and samples were collected to confirm, if she was suffering from swine flu. The woman died within hours of being admitted to the hospital. Panchmahal district health officer Dr Prakash Waghela said that the reports that arrived around 4 pm on Thursday confirmed that she was a H1N1 case.
Waghela said that the civil hospital at Godhra had prepared an isolation ward that had a capacity of six patients. He added that sufficient stock of medicines was also kept ready in case more patients arrived at the hospital.
The staff involved in the treatment of the woman, who had died on Thursday, was also given Tamiflu tablets as a precautionary measures. "We have asked the hospital staff to take necessary precautions," Waghela said.
