Severe case of A/H1N1 in Poland

8 year old with novel flu in critical condition

Third case of swine flu in capital


National Health Authority confirmed the presence of A/H1N1 virus in a 70 year old woman who had been caring for a young girl sick with swine flu in a hospital for infectious disease on Wolska St.


Says Jan Bondar, director of public health: she spent time with her in isolation, held her hand. The 8 year old flew to Poland from Atlanta on 26 June.

She was accompanied by her grandmother and 3 year old borther. She was admitted to the hospital on Wolska Street and on Sunday transferred to the hospital on Nieklanska St to the Intensive Care Unit. She is in critical condition now.

The girl's relative has no symptoms of the disease. Nevertheless she remains for observation at a hospital for communicable disease. This is the 28th case of swine flu in Poland.
