Malaria outbreak declared in Camarines Norte town

The Department of Health has declared an outbreak of malaria in Paracale, Camarines Norte, as the number of cases of the disease continued to rise.

The town reported 148 cases of malaria from January to August. The number is still rising, local government officials said.

Barangay Bagumbayan has the most number of cases of malaria in the municipality.

The family of a resident named Norma Jariel alone already has 10 victims, including her 14-year-old son Albert and seven-month old grand daughter Cherrly, whose condition was recently uncovered after undergoing a malaria test.

Paracale Mayor Romeo Moreno has released P500,000 from the municipal calamity fund for the purchase of medicine and other needed supplies.

The municipal government is also giving away mosquito nets to residents while the DOH and non-government organizations are assisting local officials in minimizing the risks of the malaria outbreak. With a report from Jonathan Magistrado, ABS-CBN Naga
