Teen from Cavite dies of Dengvaxia complications – PAO

THE Public Attorney's Office (PAO) on Monday said a 14-year-old boy from Cavite died of complications attributed to the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine.

PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta said Dick John dela Cruz, a student of Binakayan Elementary School in Kawit where he was reportedly inoculated with the vaccine, was the 164th victim whose death was attributed to the anti-dengue vaccine.

He died last May 24. His family requested for an autopsy prompting the PAO Forensics Division to examine the boy's remains on May 29.

Acosta said the boy got two doses of the vaccine in April and November 2016.

Dr. Erwin Erfe, head of PAO Forensics Division, said the boy died due to pulmonary and brain hemorrhage, among others.

PAO officials said there was a pattern of severe internal bleeding in the brain and lungs of the latest victim as well as multiple organ enlargement which was similar to the other victims who were inoculated with Dengvaxia...
