Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistani health authorities have confirmed the first case of mpox in the country.

The infectious viral disease, earlier known as monkeypox, was found in a 25-year-old Pakistani man who recently arrived in Islamabad from Saudi Arabia.

“As yet there is no evidence of localised transmission of mpox in Pakistan, and the risk of international spread of disease from Pakistan remains low,” Shah told Al Jazeera.

Mustafa Jamal Kazi, a senior official in the ministry, said the patient was sent into isolation on April 21 after his arrival in Pakistan.

“As the patient was quite unwell, we sent him to quarantine in a hospital here and conducted tests to determine what was wrong with him,” Kazi told Al Jazeera.

ISLAMABAD: The first two monkeypox cases reported in Pakistan last week have recovered from the virus, officials of the Federal Ministry of Health said Sunday.

The person deported from Saudi Arabia, who was under treatment at the Pakistan Institute Of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, has been discharged, said the ministry's officials.

Meanwhile, the other person was in quarantine at their home and was said to be in a stable condition.

According to infectious disease experts, many cases of "chickenpox" are being reported in Pakistan. They said that people are mistaking the cases of chickenpox as monkeypox.

The experts urged the health ministry to take note of the increasing cases of small pox.

Meanwhile, two new suspected cases of mpox have been detected in Lahore's General Hospital (GH), said the administration on Sunday.

The hospital administration said that the suspected patients are hospitalized for the last two days and are under treatment...​

Another case of monkeypox was detected in the federal capital, taking up the total number of people in the country infected with the disease to five.

The latest patient is a 50-year-old man belonging to Faisalabad who had recently arrived in Islamabad from Makkah. He is currently being treated in an isolation ward in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

Another patient infected with monkeypox is under treatment in the same isolation ward and both men are said to be in a stable condition...​

KARACHI: Three passengers have been diagnosed with monkeypox at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The surveillance team of the Sindh health department carried out an action at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. Three passengers who arrived in Karachi from Libya were diagnosed with monkeypox.

The Director General Health told the media that all three passengers were Pakistani citizens aged between 30 and 45.​..

KARACHI: Five suspected monkeypox cases have been reported in Pakistan on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

Five passengers who arrived in Karachi from Muscat were diagnosed with monkeypox at the Jinnah International Airport. The said travellers had reached Karachi airport via a foreign airline’s flight.

The Sindh health department said that the suspected patients will be shifted to the infectious diseases hospital.​..

PESHAWAR, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Pakistan's health ministry has confirmed at least one case of the mpox virus in a patient who had returned from a Gulf country, it said on Friday, though they did not yet know the strain of the virus.
A health ministry spokesperson said the sequencing of the confirmed case was underway, and that it would not be clear which variant of mpox the patient had until the process was complete.​..

Pakistan's mpox tally rises to 7 as another case reported

ISLAMABAD: A 44-year-old man, hailing from the Gujarat district in Punjab, has tested positive for monkeypox virus or mpox after arriving in Pakistan from a gulf state marking the seventh mpox case in the country this year and the sixth since the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared an emergency last month.

After being suspected of carrying the virus, the patient, who landed at Islamabad Airport on September 14 (Saturday), was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

The health officials confirmed that samples sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) tested positive for mpox. The patient is reported to be in stable condition.

“This is the seventh confirmed case of mpox in Pakistan this year,” said a health official in the federal health ministry. ...
