Livestock worth millions killed in animal flue

SANGHAR, March 14 (Online): Livestock including cows, bulls and precious buffaloes worth millions of rupees were killed as a result of outbreak of the animal flu in a week but the livestock department has yet to take the adequate measures, the livestock farmers told the newsmen Monday.
Protesting against the livestock department, they said, it has completely failed in controlling animal flue in the surroundings of the city.
The concerned officials of the livestock department did not bother to take notice of the fatal animal disease despite the livestock farmers approaching them repeatedly, they said.
They expressed concern that each buffalo, dying in the decease, was worth 80,000 to one Lac and the cattle farmers were on the brink of bankruptcy due to loss of livestock on large-scale.
They demanded of high ups to take immediate notice of the animal decease and take measures on emergency basis to eliminate it and save the livestock farmers from bankruptcy.
The concerned officials of the livestock department in connivance of high ups were involved in embezzlement of funds, the farmers complained, no measures were taken for facilitating to the livestock farmers of the district.
It seemed that the district office of the livestock department was established to serve the interests of particular group of officers and employees of the department, they lamented.
The medicines, which were provided to the district office, to distribute among livestock farmers in order to prevent animal diseases, were flagrantly sold at private stores. End.
