About the drought situation in Thar, Sindh government reports state that 311 children aged up to five years died between December 2013 and November 2014. But independent groups and individuals put it more than double to the official figure.

Officially, the main causes of death of the children were birth asphyxia, pre-term, low birth weight, respiratory distress syndrome, pneumonia, delivery of babies through traditional birth attendants that caused neonatal sepsis and diarrhoea.

Health officials say 118 children of those who died were newborn babies (one day old), 82 were between two days and one month, 28 children aged between 45 days and 90 days and 29 children were between eight months and one year.

Four more children die of malnutrition in Thar
MITHI: Four more children died in drought-stricken Tharparkar on Sunday, ARY News reported.
The sufferings of Thar denizens continue to spiral due to lack of medical and health facilities. The latest deaths are reported due to malnutrition and drought in the desert region of Sindh. The death toll has reached 117 in February.
Of the four children died today, two of them belonged to Chachro, while one each from Mithi and Islamkot.

Tharparkar (Online): Four more children died in Tharparkar due to malnutrition and different seasonal diseases, raising the death toll to 15 in the current month, local media quoting official sources reported on Sunday. Hospital sources said, two three months and three days baby girls and a 15 days boy died in Mithi hospital, while 15 days boy lost his life in Chachro. With the death of four children, the toll has climbed to 15 within the first 8 days of February. Moreover, the death toll has been mounted to 361 in 130 days whereas on the other hand, Sindh government suspended the relief activities to the victims of Thar.

THARPARKAR: The drought has claimed the lives of another 11 children in Tharparkar district on Monday, bringing the death toll to 80 in 48 days.
