PHILADELPHIA — A patient who came to a hospital emergency room in Montgomery County is Pennsylvania’s first confirmed measles case this year amid a national surge of the highly contagious virus, according to health officials.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health, an infected patient was seen at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in King of Prussia on Wednesday. No other details about the patient were available Saturday.

“More information will be shared regarding exposure sites, dates and times when available,” a spokesperson for the county’s public health office said in a written statement. “CHOP and the Office of Public Health have been in contact with potentially affected individuals.”​...

One Case of Measles Reported in Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Public Health (OPH) is currently investigating a confirmed case of measles in an unvaccinated Montgomery County child.

OPH disease investigators are completing contact tracing in coordination with the health care systems listed below and the child’s guardians. Identified individuals are in the process of being contacted and notified of potential exposure to measles and assessed for vaccination status and risk for infection.

The following locations were visited by the child with a confirmed case of measles during their infectious period. People who were at any of these locations during the identified time periods may have been exposed.

Measles virus can remain in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area. If someone breathes in the contaminated air or touches an infected surface and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth, they can become infected.
