The Department said that a Central Rapid Response Team is countering the outbreak of avian influenza in Chingmeirong Village, and as of now, 171 cullers are under the cover of Tamiflu. Their health status is being monitored.
The medical teams consisting of 680 health personnel in total have conducted house-to-house active surveillances in Luwangsangbam, Koirengei, Lamlongei, Ahalup, Matai, Kontha area, Achanbigei, Heingang, Laipham Siphai, Paomei Colony, Sangakpam, Khurai area and Kairang area.
Out of the 45,032 houses surveyed, 935 were having backyard poultry. A total of 2,35,161 persons were covered.
The isolation ward in J.N. Hospital, Imphal is ready to receive patients. Two ventilators have been installed to provide critical care. This is in addition to the critical care facilities available at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.
Adequate supply of logistics [Tamiflu, N-95 masks and personal protective gears] has been made available to the State Government.
With close to two lakh birds culled in Manipur, fingers are now being pointed to Myanmar from where the infected birds may have entered India through the 1600-km long porous border.
The Centre has already alerted neighbouring Mizoram to check illegal smuggling of hens from across Myanmar where incidents of bird flu outbreak have occurred very often.
Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh share borders with Myanmar.
"Government of India has issued an advisory to the northeast States to restrain from imposing any restriction on the Inter-State movement of poultry and poultry product and intensify surveillance especially vigilance on the border with the countries that have reported outbreak of avian influenza," a release from the ministry of Agriculture stated.
The Centre has confirmed the culling of 1.85 lakhs of poultry birds with operations of control and containment operations continuing on Tuesday.
Culling and disposal will cover all 86 sectors in the 0 to 5 kms zone followed by mopping, clean up and disinfection, the government release stated.
The government has also refuted the reports of 'unusual' deaths of birds from East and West Imphal districts of Manipur or in any part of the country.
