Bhubaneswar( Orissa ) : The Health and Family Welfare Minister Prasanna Acharya on Monday reviewed the situation of diarrhoea-hit Kalahandi district.

The diarrhoea has broke out in the district and spread to as many as 31 villages of 2 blocks within 15 days.

The killer diarrhoea has claimed as many as 24 lives so far, confirmation of and two suspected has not yet been received. 237 persons have been treated.

The Orissa government today rushed a team of doctors to the diarrhoea-hit villages in Kalahandi headed by the Health Director , including UNICEF,AMRC doctors.

Three mobile doctors team and 21 doctors team has been engaged there. 10 Doctors from VSS Medical has been deputed.

Govt has provided eleven Albulances for the purpose.

According to govt records 111985 pockets of ORS, 77145 bottle saline, 428000 helogen tablets, 106 bag of bliching powder and required medicines stored and further more medicines are being supplied.

Steps are being taken to blich the drinking water sources.

I don't even think they considered H1N1. This is just ordinary diarrheal disease - probably E. coli, salmonella, etc. This doesn't seem to be an undiagnosed outbreak.

It's just one more thing the health authorities in Orissa don't need.

Oh ok, well I just find it strange that most other regions of India are having multiple deaths from H1N1 in which diarrhea has been reported as a symptom, while I haven't yet heard of any confirmed cases or confirmed fatalities there. I also note that if it's water-borne contaminant, wouldn't all the cases be about the same time rather than staggered, since most of the community would be using the river, wells or other community water sources. Also in 1918 there were numerous reports of GI tract pathology as well as the pneumonic pathologies and neurological ones. I agree there are also way too many sources of public health risks (
