The Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit has confirmed a case of measles in a young student in Hastings County.

Unit staff said in a press release Friday they are investigating where the child may have contracted the illness and are taking steps to prevent it from spreading to others...

Measles case a false alarm: health officials

A recently-reported case of measles in a Hastings County student was a false alarm, health officials say.

The Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit announced Friday the initial test result was "a false positive..."

Quebec pair with measles visited Barrie restaurant
Health unit says no infections reported locally

Two Quebec residents with infectious measles visited a Barrie restaurant, but the city seems to have dodged an outbreak.

While travelling through the city in early July, the two people were believed to be contagious at the time, but Ann Corner, manager of communicable diseases with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, said no infections have been reported locally.

"We're monitoring and working with our physicians to see if any further cases arise," she said. "We're through our incubation period, which means the time period where we would have seen new cases from exposure to that person."

The people infected are from a region of Quebec currently dealing with high levels of measles cases, but may have been unaware of they were infected, Corner said.

They also visited Canada's Wonderland amusement park.

"I'm guessing these people were travelling through our area and didn't realize what was happening to them," Corner said. "But they might have had very mild symptoms while they were in our area..."
