Halton Region health officials have yet to determine whether the highly contagious Norovirus caused the death of six seniors at a Burlington residence and long-term care facility.

The outbreak, detected on February 13, spread quickly through the Village of Tansley Woods, sickening 118 residents and 30 staffers.

Fifty-four people in the 144-bed long-term care unit were infected. Four of them have since died.

Another 64 were hit in the 226-unit section where 270 people currently reside in retirement suites. Two people there have died.

It's not clear that the deaths were the direct result of Norovirus, also known as Norwalk virus, said Augustin James, assistant general manager of the long-term care facility.. .
