ENID, Oklahoma -

Enid schools are putting parents on high alert for cases of the mumps after two students tested positive for the disease. Despite being a required immunization, the mumps vaccine is only 88% effective.

Four cases of mumps were confirmed this week in Garfield County, the state Department of Health reported Wednesday night.

The age range for those currently affected is from 1 to 41 years of age, including students at Longfellow Middle School and Enid High School. The Garfield County health department is also investigating at least 34 more cases...

State Health Department adjusts mumps numbers

The Oklahoma State Department of Health has modified its total recorded number of mumps cases.

As of Monday afternoon, the department had recorded four confirmed cases of mumps and 10 cases under investigation.

The new number of suspected cases is down from 34, which Enid Public Schools included in a message to parents Wednesday.

Mumps outbreak hits 292 cases in Garfield County

ENID, Okla. ? A total of 292 cases in Garfield County are now reported in the statewide mumps outbreak, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

State officials, along with county health departments of Garfield, Kay and McCurtain counties, continue to investigate and provide a public health response to an outbreak of 342 total cases in Oklahoma.

A significant percent of those acquiring mumps have been fully vaccinated, said Carla Dionne, regional administrative director for the department serving Garfield, Grant, Major and Alfalfa counties.

Oklahoma State Department of Health spokesman Tony Sellars said 66 percent can prove they were vaccinated...
