Ohio detects first omicron variant cases

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Ohio Department of Health says it has detected the state's first cases of the omicron variant.

The state health department said Saturday that two cases of the variant were confirmed through genomic sequencing by the Ohio State University Laboratory.

ODH said the two omicron cases were detected in adult males in Central Ohio. Both tested positive via a PCR test on Dec. 7. Additionally, both cases had received their initial COVID-19 vaccines more than six months ago, but neither had yet obtained a booster.

Both men are reportedly experiencing mild symptoms and have not been hospitalized. Neither had traveled internationally...
