Objective

To assist countries in preventing and responding to animal health events and in controlling and eradicating animal diseases by providing preparedness support and rapid response missions, as well as event coordination through the Emergency Management Centre for Animal Health platform.

Activities implemented

• Deployed remote and in-person emergency preparedness and response missions to support outbreaks of African swine fever, high pathogenicity avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, Rift Valley fever and peste des petits ruminants across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Near East.

• Conducted preparedness and capacity-building activities, including Good Emergency Management Practice (GEMP) trainings, simulation exercises, after-action reviews (AARs) and the development of contingency plans and standard operating procedures.

• Supported the development and dissemination of the Progressive Pathway for Emergency Preparedness (PPEP), including the publication of the PPEP user guide and its application in more than 80 countries.

• Facilitated global and regional Incident Coordination Groups (ICGs) and strengthened emergency coordination mechanisms for major transboundary animal diseases and zoonoses.

• Enhanced dissemination of disease intelligence and emergency management through continuous monitoring via the Global Early Warning System, the development of coordination tools and collaboration with international partners.
