Maternity ward visiting times will be from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm.

Waitemata District Health Board midwifery head Emma Farmer says it was during the swine flu pandemic that they realised reducing visiting hours could be helpful for mothers and babies.

During the pandemic, nurses noticed mothers got more rest, were better able to respond to their baby's feeding cues, and breastfeeding rates increased.
