Winter ills see people rush to buy medicines

Ellen Irvine | 29th July 2010

Winter ailments have kept Tauranga Hospital, medical centres and pharmacies busy as patients wanting relief from bugs seek help.

Dee St Medical Centre in Mount Maunganui reported patient flow to be heavy, with one doctor reporting 80 per cent of the patients she saw yesterday afternoon were children, many with cold and respiratory conditions.

The pharmacy had been busy dispensing Tamiflu which had been prescribed for suspected influenza cases. People had also complained about getting a stomach bug causing vomiting.
